Can you cook a marinated chicken in space? Soy Vay attempts to answer that question.

I wasn't sure what I was in for when I got an email that opened with "What do you get when you pair a Jewish boy and an Asian girl?" In case you're wondering, the answer is "Awesome sauce."

Of course.

The good folks from Soy Vay then told me they were going to launch a chicken into space next month, from right here in Nashville, and that I was invited to witness the event they're calling A Pollo '13 (nice). They really knew how to get my attention - space and Asian stuff AND puns? SOLD.

Transient

A week or so later, a package arrived and in it was a bottle of their Veri Veri Teriyaki sauce and some gear to get me in the swing of things like a space shuttle oven mitt, astronaut ice cream sandwich and (the best part other than the sauce) a set of Light Saber chopsticks.

A little bit about the gold folks at Soy Vay - they offer a line of kosher, Asian sauces like Hoisin, Toasted Sesame, Wasabi Teriyaki (!!!!) to name a few.

I am not too proud to admit that this sauce has taken over my meals - I drizzle it on salmon, I've tossed sauteed green beans in it, I've even used it to marinate chicken breasts. One day, on a whim, I needed to add flavor to some kale I'd just cooked. It was good, trust me.

You're probably all "Yes, yes, we get it, you're practically drinking the sauce from the bottle. What's up with this space, chicken thing?"

A team from Soy Vay will be in town on October 12th at Cumberland Park. There, they will place a fresh chicken (that's been marinated in Veri Veri Teriyaki) into a capsule, cooker thing and then they're going to launch. That. Ish. Into. Space.

As you do.

I know. I'm all "whuuuuuuuuut" too and I have no idea how this is going to turn out, or what's going to happen but it should be highly entertaining.

To keep up with what's happening in the meantime and to see what other local Soy Vay-inspired events are happening, follow local Soy Vay ambassadors Jonbalaya and  Soy Vay on Twitter. If you're having lunch from Jonbalaya, ask Jon about the sauces because he's been cooking with them and he (like me) can't get enough of them.

The A Pollo 13 launch is open to everybody so I hope you can join the fun. You'll find the rest of the launch details and some fun facts here.

To get a bottle of Veri Veri Teriyaki or any of their other flavors, head to the Asian foods aisle at Kroger. You can also buy it online from Soy Vay.

Oh! And I can't forget this:

Thanks, Soy Vay!

Thanks, Soy Vay!
